Two cold fronts coming through Baton Rouge will bring cooler temperatures for a brief visit mid-week, a National Weather Service meteorologist said.

The first cool front will move through Monday night, bringing drier air, said Christopher Bannan, a NWS meteorologist. The low on Tuesday night will be about 56 degrees, the weather service predicted.

But a second cool front "will slam down into the southeastern United States, bringing much cooler air on Tuesday night and into early Wednesday," Bannan said. On Wednesday night, the low is expected to drop dramatically to near 49 degrees, the NWS said.

The high temperature on Wednesday is predicted to be around 72.

Temperatures should be back to normal by the weekend, with highs near 80 degrees or slightly higher, and lows near 60.

Bannan said it's typical weather for this time of year.

"By mid-October, we start getting decent cold fronts," he said.

Rain is not expected in the forecast.

October is historically one of the drier months for Louisiana, Bannan said.

"So far in October, Baton Rouge has had 0.13 of an inch of rain," he said.
